Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Warrawee Public School, Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Ethics Education (SEE) is delivered on Wednesdays from 9.00 - 9.40am.

When using the Online Enrolment System (OES), parents and carers are able to opt-in to SRE at the time of their child's enrolment.  After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to your child's teacher, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Warrawee Public School:

Catholic
Special Religious Education (SRE) is the time set aside in Government Schools for Catechists (officially called Scripture Teachers).

SRE is mandated by the Education Act (1990) and gives parents the choice to have children formed in the faith of their family. Catechists from your local Catholic Church and authorised and sent out each school week to teach Catholic children about Jesus and his saving message that brings hope, joy, and self-giving faithfulness and resilience in forming a Christ-like character.

Combined Christian (including Anglican and Uniting)
Combined Christian SRE is provided by teachers from local churches who are authorised and trained by the following approved providers: Anglican Diocese of Sydney and Uniting Church in Australia.  The SRE curriculum used is produced by Christian Education Publications and is approved by both SRE providers.

The curriculum explores the good news about Jesus Christ found in the Bible and the depth of God’s love for people. Each lesson has been developed to be taught in an age-appropriate manner.

Lessons include activities which make the lessons fun and inclusive for children and young people, and also give them the opportunity to critically explore and deepen their faith, pray and reflect. For more information about the SRE curriculum used in this school visit whysre.com.au

Hindu
The purpose of Hindu Scripture Classes is to help students identify with the Hindu Religion, Sanatana Dharma, Rich Hindu History and Hindu Role models. The Hindu Scripture Classes also make sure that students learn how enduring and time tested Hindu values are universal and how they can be applied in this Century.

Special Ethics Education (SEE)

SEE is provided by "Primary Ethics". For more information about SEE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence.  You can find out more information about the program from our school's ethics coordinator Alex Kroh, his email is warrawee.ethics@gmail.com

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities, such as reading, private study or completing homework.
