President's Report

P&C President Report - 1st September 2020

Hi Everyone,

Yah – we made it to Spring!!! Life is better in Spring…Its’ gotta be!

We are very excited to report that at our P&C meeting last week, Members voted to donate $58,000 as a contribution towards the rollout of the new SMART boards in every classroom benefitting every child at our school. Fantastic news!

Mrs Robertson also presented plans at the meeting for a major new playground next to the netball court on the Infants side. It is planned that a P&C donation to this significant proposal will be voted on at our next P&C meeting.

Kirra from ‘Safe on Social’ is back, with a refresher and update on keeping your children safe in our digital world. The seminar will cover privacy settings, security tips, cyber bulling, social media apps (Tik Tok/You Tube, House Party etc), gaming and more! The seminar will run for approx. 60-90mins, including Q&A.

Last week 24-28th August was SASS Recognition Week, a time to acknowledge our school office admin team, support staff, teacher’s aides, Mr Jon for everything they do. In honour of this, last Wednesday the P&C presented our SAS staff with a beautiful bunch of flowers – one for each campus.

Thank you for all that you do in keeping our school running and supporting our children, teaching staff and our school community.

This Sunday is Fathers’ Day – Happy Fathers’ Day to all our Warra Dad’s.

To all who purchased a Fathers’ Day gift from the P&C you will receive your items this coming Thursday 3rd September, delivered to your child’s classroom. Please check the bags!!

Our Fathers’ Day printables are still available to download for a quick last minute gift or card.

Download them from here

Early last week the traffic Committee had a very productive zoom catchup focussing on pedestrian safety around the school. Thank you to Roger S, Pieter B and Lucas T, Dylan C for taking the time to discuss these issues. A report will be presented to Transport NSW from the P&C as soon as possible.

In the past years, we have celebrated World Teacher’s Day with each student writing a message to their teacher to be presented to them at a lovely morning tea in their honour hosted by the P&C. This year, instead of the children handwriting their messages (with the help of their class parent and parent volunteers) in the classroom we are going online!

Most of you should have received an email from you Class Parent about how your child can participate. If you haven’t yet, it will be coming through very soon! All details are in the class email.

Why not do it this weekend! All you need to do is click on the link in your class parent email and follow the steps. The link will close off on Friday 16th October so please make sure you complete it by then.

It only takes 5 mins, sit with you child and have them type or you type their message onto the group together card, something funny or heartfelt, attach a hand drawn picture of their teacher or a photo of them. Add a cold coin donation, which will go to our secret surprise for the teachers on World Teacher’s Day. It's simple and quick.

Band rehearsals started on Zoom last week. The online rehearsals have been going really well and have exceeded all expectations! We’ve been very pleased to see such a positive take-up and lots of smiling faces in the Zoom Gallery View.

A particular shout out to the Training Band, who were so excited about their Zoom rehearsal that they have requested a second one per week. Miss Gandy has really enjoyed working with them on Tuesday and Friday mornings, and is looking forward to continuing to work through “Beethoven’s Ninth” and get it up to full speed.

Training Band and Intermediate Band are using band points to pick the band member of the term. Miss Gandy will also be running a music quiz in each rehearsal, so please make sure they bring along a pencil and paper in addition to their instrument and music.

Mr Dalton has sent the following message for Performance Band:

"Well done Performance Band on our first Zoom rehearsal last week! Thank you to everyone who turned up. I hope that playing some new scales was an exciting challenge. Scales are super important, as any musician that is worth their salt will tell you. Scales help you develop muscle memory, helps you recognise patterns, and gives you a practical introduction to music theory. I hope that each and everyone of you spends some home practice time working on scales. I suggest practicing them with a metronome. The easiest way is to download a metronome app. Start slow, and once it is feeling comfortable at one tempo, increase it incrementally by 10 bpm. Let me know how you go!

For this week's rehearsal, have a go at learning Concert A Harmonic Minor (B minor for Clarinets and Trumpets, F# minor for Alto Saxes). Its relative major is Concert C Major (D major for Clarinets and Trumpets, A major for Alto Saxes). I'll explain it again during rehearsal.  We will also have a play through “Moai” and “From Now On” during rehearsal this week."

The same Zoom links will be used for each rehearsal for the rest of term, so make sure you bookmark those links.

Band fees were due on 7 August. If you have not paid or received your invoice, please email Ben at bandmanager@warraweeband.com
